Ian Evatt explains reasons behind Bolton Wanderers defender Jamie Mascoll's departure

Ian Evatt explained game time and thoughts on earning a deal for next season were the reasons behind Jamie Mascoll's departure from Bolton Wanderers.

The 23-year-old joined the club last summer as part of a recruitment drive where more than 20 players were brought in to the University of Bolton Stadium.

But Mascoll has now joined League of Ireland side Waterford on loan until the end of the season after finding minutes limited at Wanderers.

He has played only nine times for Wanderers in all competitions this campaign.

His most recent appearance came off the bench in mid-December in the away victory over Cheltenham Town.

He was last part of a matchday squad against the Robins for the home fixture in mid-January, but has not been part of the set up on a matchday since then.

Mascoll penned a one-year deal last summer and is out of contract in the summer.

And speaking about Mascoll's loan move, Evatt said the defender needs minutes and also earn a deal for next season, as it appears his Bolton career has come to a conclusion.

But Evatt wished Mascoll well after moving on to pastures new and hopes he can cement himself at Waterford.

Evatt said:“He just needs games and he’s out of contract in the summer so it’s an opportunity to go somewhere and try to get a deal next season.

"Sometimes in football things don’t work out how they were meant to and if every signing was a success we’d have nothing to talk about, really.

“From both sides things probably haven’t worked out but Jamie is a fantastic lad, a talented player and I hope he goes over there and really progresses, improves and shows everyone what he’s really about. I hope he finds a home at Waterford."
