Ian Evatt confirms Bolton Wanderers casting eye over experienced midfield free agent in training

Bolton Wanderers currently have an experienced midfielder who is a free agent training with the club as the Trotters eye reinforcements, Ian Evatt has confirmed.

Wanderers brought in more than 20 new players over the summer and it's only a few weeks to go until the January transfer window opens.

The Trotters have recently lost influential central midfielder Andrew Tutte to injury and have played youngster George Thomason in the engine room in the last two games.

Towards the end of the summer transfer window, Evatt tended to look away from signing free agents due to the need to have to bring them up to speed with Wanderers' training regime and the potential for injuries to occur.

But the Bolton boss was prepared to bring in players who are unattached if an opportunity presented itself.

The Trotters head coach has confirmed that an experienced midfielder is going to be training with the club today at the Lostock training ground.

It will give both parties a chance to assess one another and Evatt admitted that the player in question would normally not be within Bolton's reach, but that the opportunity had presented itself due to the fact that the midfielder is a free agent.

“It’s funny you should ask me that. Yeah, I did say that, and I also said that unless someone really special came along," Evatt said.

“Now we have a midfield player that’s available to us that’ll be in training with us today. He’ ’ll have a look at us and we can have a look at him.

“He’s probably a player that wouldn’t have been in our reach but because he hasn’t got fixed up anywhere else, he’s now become available to us.

“I’m not going to name names because I don’t want to lose him to anyone else but that looks promising moving forwards."
