Ian Durrant explains THAT Walter Smith footage as legendary boss' post-match reaction to hilarious moment revealed

Ian Durrant has told how he pleaded with Ally McCoist to sort out Rangers ' tactics after he was clipped around the ear by legendary boss Walter Smith in a moment now immortalised on the internet.

The short video sees an apoplectic Smith jump from his seat in fury, gesticulating wildly and clipping Durrant around the lugs in a move that appeared to send the coach down the stairs to the dugout with significantly more haste.

It's often used by Rangers fans on Twitter and has become one of the most widely seen Scottish football videos on the platform.

The flashpoint occurred during a bitterly contested Celtic match at Ibrox after Smith had warned his team not to allow the Hoops to pin them back.

When the second half started and his instructions hadn't been followed, the normally calm boss exploded in anger and left Durrant ducking for cover.

The midfield legend told the Rangers Youth DC Twitter account: "We had the half-time team talk and Walter was reiterating the fact Celtic would come flying out the traps after the break.

"He told us not to get camped in, get up the park and try and push them with the attacking options we had.

"So Coisty ( Ally McCoist ) and Kenny (McDowall) are downstairs and we are getting camped in of course so Walter is shouting and balling.

"The phone had a malfunction and wasn’t working so when Celtic nearly scored he clipped me and told me to get downstairs.

"When I got down to Coisty and Kenny I said: 'any chance of sorting this because I’m not getting clipped again!'

"It was raw emotions, that’s all it was. After the game we were in the office having a beer and a glass of red wine and the clip came on Sky.

"Walter said: ‘did I do that to you?’ and I said: ‘Aye, you did!’

"He’s tried to punch my head off and he can’t remember it! And it wasn’t the first time he tried it!"
