Ian Cathro earns Tottenham move as ex-Hearts boss reunited with Nuno Espirito Santo

Former Hearts coach Ian Cathro has taken a step up to join Tottenham.

Cathro had a nightmare time at Tynecastle but has rejuvenated his career as part of Nuno Espirito Santo's coaching staff.

And he's rejoined the former Wolves boss in his new job after the Portuguese took over form Jose Mourinho in North London after a lengthy search.

Cathro had been assistant at Wolves and previously worked with Rio Ave and Valencia in similar roles alongside the former Porto goalkeeper.

His time at Hearts ended in disappointment after winning just five out 22 league games during a disappointing spell for the club on the pitch.

He was axed after they failed to qualify from the group stage of the Betfred Cup and players questioned the intensity of training.

Nuno was appointed as manager on Wednesday until 2023 and they’ve also been joined by goalkeeping coach Rui Barbosa and fitness coach Antonio Dias.

Ryan Mason had been in caretaker charge but he returns to the academy as head of player development.
