Ian Burchnall's verdict as Notts County's promotion charge continues with King's Lynn win

Ian Burchnall hailed a fantastic second-half performance as Notts County maintained their promotion charge with a fine 4-2 win at King's Lynn.

Callum Roberts was the hero as he scored a 22-minute hat-trick after the break which had seen Notts trail to Gold Omatayo's early header.

Frank Vincent then capped off a terrific response from Notts before Michael Clunan hit a consolation.

Notts were indebted to a change at half-time by Burchnall as he switched from a 3-5-2 formation to 4-3-3 which saw Roberts move from wing-back to attack.

And it paid dividends as Notts kept up the heat on National League leaders Halifax leaving Burchnall a happy man.

"We were really poor in the first half and fantastic in the second. That's football sometimes," he said.

"We struggled in the first half and didn't adapt to the conditions. Credit to King's Lynn. They set up and frustrated us really well.

"We switched it up at half-time, changed the system and I think that released us and let us attack much more.

"Once we did that, then we looked great. I changed the system because of the way they pressed us we needed four to build up.

"As soon as we did that we started to go forwards. We upped the intensity. But teams at the top will have a bad half. They played really well, but top teams can turn it around. We did that. In the second half, in general, I thought we were brilliant."
