Ian Burchnall's brilliant response about Notts County fans after dramatic play-off win

Ian Burchnall paid tribute to Notts County fans for the "unbelievable" atmosphere they generated in the 3-2 win over Chesterfield.

The Magpies booked their place in the National League play-off semi-final with a dramatic 3-2 win at Meadow Lane as Mark Ellis 90th-minute header snatched victory.

More than 4,500 fans were inside the stadium to witness Notts book a date with Torquay United next weekend, knowing two wins will book their return to the Football League.

And head coach Burchnall was quick to praise their impact on the players and said the noise to the third goal would have probably been heard in Devon.

"It was unbelievable," he said.

"I thought the fans just pushed and pushed us.

"I said last time against Weymouth it was loud, but when we scored the third they probably heard us in Torquay.

"It was a phenomenal atmosphere. We are so pleased to put that on for the fans.,"

Burchnall said the celebrations in the dressing room were memorable but said reminded them they would be back to the grindstone on Monday in preparation for the clash against the Gulls next weekend.

And having managed Norwegian side Viking and Swedish top flight outfit Ostersunds in his career, Burchnall said he could not recall a game that was as gripping.

"I can't think of one in my career that was so dramatic," he said.

"Normally I am very calm, but today when the third goal went in I was very excited.

"It was fantastic in the dressing room after the game and the players should enjoy this.

"But when we get back in Monday it's back to work.

"I don't want to finish here. I want to go to Torquay and take the next challenge."
