Ian Burchnall reveals why Notts County did not take the knee before Aldershot win

Ian Burchnall has explained why Notts County did not take the knee before their thrilling 3-2 win over Aldershot.

Shots players all took the gesture before kick-off while Magpies players and fans stood and applauded.

Many clubs up and down the country are still taking the knee in the fight against racism but others have decided not to do so but have made it clear they are committed to fighting discrimination.

And head coach Burchnall said Notts' players were asked for their views before the start of the season on what they wanted to do.

"What's happened before the season is every team has been asked and we asked the players what their preference was," he said.

"Do they want to take the knee or do they not? Our lads decided that we stand for the same principles for taking the knee but we don't feel the need to do it every week.

"We try to do it in our actions every day. Before the game I spoke to Danny Searle, the Aldershot manager, and he said they want to do it every game this season.

"We fully respect that and they got a round of applause from our fans and players. It was a good gesture from them."
