New head coach Ian Burchnall wants Notts County to “express themselves” as he prepares to take his first game in charge of the club with a Wembley final at stake.
The Magpies host part-time Hornchurch in the FA Trophy semi-final knowing victory will earn them a second trip to the capital after reaching the play-off final in the National League last season.
Burchnall will be in the dugout having only had one day to work with the players following his appointment as successor to Neal Ardley who was sacked on Wednesday.
As Burchnall prepares to take charge of what is a huge game that he will oversee from the dugout, the former Ostersund coach wants the players to unleash their attacking capabilities.
“It’s a really unusual game probably because of the nature of it as well with with the situation Hornchurch have been in,” he said.
“Their players have not been playing games and have probably had just one game to think about probably for a long, long while.
“And so it’s quite an unusual game really from that from that respect.
“For me, I want the players to go out and express themselves, show what they can do and be positive in all of their actions.
“So I think we want to get out there and play a really good game.
“Like I say there’s not massive amount of time to get on the training pitch and do too much, so I’m going to rely a lot on the staff and I think the players are going to enjoy the challenge of being in a semi-final.
“The possibility of getting to a cup final is fantastic, so embrace that and the game.”
