Ian Burchnall names surprise Notts County team to face Wrexham

Notts County head coach Ian Burchnall took the decision to rest Callum Roberts and Ruben Rodrigues as they faced Wrexham at the Racecourse tonight.

The duo, both of Notts' biggest talents, were on the bench for the National League clash to help them avoid playing two games in three days.

Their omission from the starting line-up meant Jim O'Brien was called up for his first start of the campaign while Kairo Mitchell also made his full league debut following his summer switch from Chesterfield.

There was also a welcome return to action for Joel Taylor who was ill last week but deemed fit enough to start and he took his place at left wing-back.

Despite the changes, Burchnall stuck to his favoured 3-5-2 formation with Sam Slocombe in goal, behind the back three of Richard Brindley, Connell Rawlinson and Kyle Cameron.

Dion Kelly-Evans and Taylor were handed wing-back responsibilities. In midfield Matt Palmer, Ed Francis and O'Brien made up the central trio.

Up front Kyle Wootton partnered Mitchell.

On the subs bench were Roberts, Rodrigues, Elisha Sam, Adam Chicksen and Aaron Nemane.
