Ian Burchnall names strong Notts County team to face Derby

Ian Burchnall named his strongest possible Notts County line-up as they faced Derby County at Meadow Lane this afternoon.

Fresh from beating Boston United in midweek, the Magpies head coach stepped up his preparations for the new season in what was an impressive looking starting 11.

Former Newcastle winger Calllum Roberts returned to the fray after missing the game against the Pilgrims in midweek while new signings Ed Francis and Ed Palmer started their first game together in pre-season.

The line-up looked more like what Burchnall would be expected to play in the National League next season with Sam Slocombe in goal behind the back three of Kyle Cameron, Connell Rawlinson and Richard Brindley.

Dion Kelly-Evans and Joel Taylor were handed wing-back responsibilities while Francis, Palmer and Jim O'Brien made up the midfield trio in a 3-5-2 system.

Roberts joined Kyle Wootton up frontwhile on the bench was new signing Aaron Nemane. Trialist William Hondermarck was also among the subs.
