Ian Burchnall makes Notts County vow and says fans will understand it

Ian Burchnall insists he is not afraid to be proactive when it comes to making big tactical changes after it paid off in the win over Grimsby Town.

The Magpies' head coach changed from back three to a back four at half-time of the 1-0 win and also made a double substitution.

Callum Roberts and Aaron Nemane were introduced to help change the landscape of the contest after Grimsby were much the better side in the opening 45 minutes.

And the switch paid dividends as Ruben Rodrigues conjured up a dramatic late winner to stretch the Magpies' unbeaten run to six games.

And Burchnall maintains he is not prepared to dither when it comes to making such big calls.

"Both the players and probably the fans know now that if I think that something needs to be changed, I'm not going to wait until 65 minutes just to do it there," he said.

"If I think something can be changed at half-time and it's going to have kind of a positive impact I'll do it you know," he said.

"I think the players understand that.

"We have good players that are coming in and everybody respects that so it's better in my eyes to be proactive because every minute counts."
