Ian Burchnall delivers blunt verdict on 'poor' Notts County after Altrincham draw

Head coach Ian Burchnall hit out at Notts County's performance at Altrincham as he insisted the Magpies were not "good enough" as they salvaged a point at Moss Lane.

The Magpies had fallen behind in the first half when Alistair Smith struck from outside the box.

But Ruben Rodrigues hauled Notts level with a free-kick right on the stroke of half-time after Richard Brindley was fouled.

Notts had chances to win it in the second half with Enzio Boldewijn and Kyle Wootton denied by Tony Thompson, but goalkeeper Luke Steele came to the Magpies' rescue with two important saves at the end.

The result kept Notts in touch with the play-offs ahead of a crucial clash against Sutton on Tuesday, but Burchnall couldn't hide his disappointment.

"I thought it was poor, really poor," he said.

"In the last two games against Eastleigh and Torquay, I came out and said that I thought we played well and deserved to win the games.

"People can agree or disagree with that, but here, if I am honest, we didn't deserve any more than what we've got.

"It wasn't a good enough performance. I've praised the team when we've played well and not won, but I have to stand here and say I was not happy."
