Ian Brown refuses to play Neighbourhood Weekender festival over Covid vaccine

Ian Brown has pulled out of a festival appearance after refusing to play an event that accepts "vaccination proof as condition of entry".

The Stone Roses frontman was lined-up to play Neighbourhood Weekender on its new date in September.

But Ian, 58, has now told fans his headline show "will not happen" after festival organisers said they would "comply with conditions" set out by the government through the local authority that will safely allow large-scale events to go ahead.

He tweeted: "My Saturday night headline show at NHBD Weekender Festival will now not happen!

"I refuse to accept vaccination proof as condition of entry. Refunds are available!"

The organisers of the Warrington festival have now replaced him with indie icons James.

They added in a statement online: "No decisions will be taken by government until 21 June at the earliest.

"We are working hard with other festival organisers and look forward to a safe return to open-air events this summer."

The rockstar has been vocal with his opinion on vaccinations and the coronavirus pandemic.

Just last weekend he was mocked by fans following his latest anti-vaccine tweet.

"I will NEVER sing to a crowd who must be vaccinated as a condition of attendance. NEVER EVER!" he shouted.

Last September he stunned fans, on Twitter again, with a controversial 'no masks' tweet.

He said: "NO LOCKDOWN NO TESTS NO TRACKS NO MASKS NO VAX #researchanddestroy."
