There is always that one project that a big movie star does before they hit it big. For those who were there when it happened, it gives us that little bit of leverage. For Glen Powell, that’s the Scream Queens fans.
Powell played Chad Radwell in the series, the fratty boyfriend of Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts). When he wasn’t being a bad boyfriend, he was hanging out with his best friend Boone (Nick Jonas) and being the definition of “open-minded as hell” for a fraternity bro. He loved golf, pastels, and little newspaper caps and I loved him. Rest in peace, my icon.
Point is: If you watched Scream Queens and then suddenly saw Glen Powell make it really big in 2022 with Top Gun: Maverick, you probably had the same kind of reaction that I did. Meaning we were just happy to see our boy Chad again. The show did end with Chad dead but, hey, at least we had a good run with him. Except now that Powell is a big star and we’re all watching Ryan Murphy shows again, the question is what of Murphy’s shows, that he created with Ian Brennan, should they bring back.
One of those shows in the conversation is Scream Queens. And now, with Powell’s star constantly on the rise, Brennan spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the show, the character, and what Brennan is remembered for the most. “I mean, Glen Powell, who’s now the movie star of all movie stars, every time I see him, he’s like, ‘You know the thing I get remembered for the most? It’s Chad Radwell,’” he said.
But what about Chad’s death?
In the beginning of season 2, Chad is killed by the Green Meanie aka Taylor Lautner aka yet another reason for me to be mad at Jacob from Twilight. Meaning that if the show ever made a return, Powell would, theoretically, not be a part of it. Unless Brennan has other plans. In the interview, he made note of some other “deaths” that didn’t stay that way.
“But didn’t Dexter just do that? Hasn’t Dexter killed off and brought back characters?” Famously, Dexter himself. So in theory, if anyone would kill a character then surprise bring them back, it is Ian Brennan and Ryan Murphy. They basically did it with Evan Peters in American Horror Story: Coven.
Brennan also talked about the potential of season 3 if they ended up getting it back in 2016. “It was such a fun, funny show. And we had really good ideas for where it could go next,” he said. “What was great about that show was that you get to send up all the horror tropes. The first one was college girls. The second one was macabre body horror, a hospital setting, but actually, we were tasked with putting it in that section. What we were going to do in the second season, which I would probably do in a third, would be to set it at a camp. Scream Queens would be set at a Friday the 13th camp.”
So…if I ask nicely, does that mean that I could see my boy Chad again?
