SOUTH BEND, Ind. _ Ian Book threw four touchdown passes as No. 8 Notre Dame made a major statement Saturday night with a 38-17 victory against No. 7 Stanford at Notre Dame Stadium.
Running back Dexter Williams added to the offense with 161 rushing yards and one touchdown in his first game of the season. Williams missed the first four games reportedly because of disciplinary reasons.
Book finished with 278 passing yards. His 10-yard touchdown pass to Chase Claypool with 39 seconds left in the second quarter gave Notre Dame a 21-14 lead. The Irish led the rest of game.
Wide receiver Miles Boykin had 11 catches for 144 yards and one touchdown for the Irish (5-0).
K.J. Costello had 174 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Cardinal (4-1).
