Ian Book saves Notre Dame with a late touchdown run

Notre Dame narrowly avoided an upset loss at home Saturday against Virginia Tech, and despite struggling earlier in the game with two interceptions, quarterback Ian Book delivered in multiple clutch moments in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

Trailing 20-14 with 3:19 remaining, Book took over at his own 13-yard line and needed to guide the Fighting Irish 87 yards for a potential game-winning touchdown. Two quick incomplete passes left Notre Dame facing a 4th down immediately, but Book completed a pass to keep the drive alive. He would later be faced with a 4th-and-10, but hit Chase Claypool on a 26-yard pass to set up a first-and-goal inside the final minute.

Book threw two incompletions to bring up third-and-goal from the seven, and then tied the game with a touchdown run to the right edge. Jonathan Doerer made the extra point, and Notre Dame escaped to improve to 6-2 on the season.
