Ian Blackford says Scotland 'will find way back to EU' as Michel Barnier visits Skye

IAN Blackford has told former EU Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier that Scotland "will find a pathway back to the EU".

Former EU Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier was on a visit to the isle of Skye, and was hiking up towards the Old Man of Storr.

One of Scotland's most iconic places, the Old Man benefitted from EU funding that invested in Skye's tourism infrastructure.

Upon stumbling upon a sign marking that investment, Barnier tweeted: "On the path of Old Man of Storr in the north of the Scottish island of Skye.

"Happy to find a lasting trace of the good cooperation between the European Union and the Scottish Government."

The MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber Ian Blackford tweeted in response: "Welcome to Skye @MichelBarnier.

"Scotland will find a pathway back to the EU. That is our destiny. Thank you for your engagement and friendship with us."

SNP MSP Fiona Hyslop also tweeted in approval, saying: "Appreciated - and be assured the mist will rise on Skye and Scotland."
