Ian Baraclough showcases dodgy acting skills in Northern Ireland mascot video

Ian Baraclough showed off some dodgy acting skills as Northern Ireland revealed the name of their new mascot on Wednesday night.

'Danny Boy' is set to make his international debut at Windsor Park on Friday when Baraclough's side take on Lithuania in their penultimate World Cup qualifier.

The mascot was unveiled during the summer, with the Irish FA then inviting fans to come up with a name for the senior men's team cheerleader.

The official Northern Ireland Twitter account did a big reveal on Wednesday night, courtesy of a mock interview video starring Baraclough and coaches Roy Carroll and Tommy Johnson.

In the video Baraclough, Carroll and Johnson outline what makes a successful Northern Ireland mascot, including attributes such as stamina, personality, good footwork and being able to "pump up the crowd".

While the acting won't win any Oscars, it shows the lighter side of Northern Ireland's coaching team.

Fair to say there was a mixed response to the video.

One fan tweeted: "I see the money from the £40 tickets for a dead rubber against Lithuania has been soundly invested in acting lessons for Baraclough. He's a lot more convincing here than the team were against Bulgaria."

Another added: "This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen."

And Dinger just said: "Things are bad…"

It wasn't all negativity, however, with one fan tweeting: "Kids will lap this up. Fair play."
