Ian Baraclough's managerial record as he becomes Northern Ireland's new boss

Ian Baraclough is Northern Ireland's new manager.

The 49-year-old's impressive three-year spell with the country's Under 21s has earned him the top job within the Irish FA.

Baraclough succeeds Michael O'Neill who led Northern Ireland to the 2016 Euro finals and helped transform football at all levels here.

The former Scunthorpe United, Sligo Rovers and Motherwell boss enjoyed a successful three-year spell with Northern Ireland's Under 21s.

According to NI football statistician Marshall Gillespie, Baraclough won nine of his 19 games in charge, drawing six and losing just four (47 per cent win ratio).

His young teams also kept eight clean sheets during that period.

Baraclough's overall managerial record with Scunthorpe, Sligo, Motherwell and Northern Irelnd 21s sees him emerge with a 46 per cent win ratio, out of 199 games.

Another nice stat from Marshall is that 49-year-old Baraclough is the third oldest person to take over as NI boss, after After Lawrie McMenemy and Danny Blanchflower.

Baraclough has enjoyed success during his managerial career.

At Sligo he won the FAI League of Ireland title in 2012, and the FAI Cup (2013) and Setanta Cup (2014).

He helped Motherwell win the Scottish Premiership playoffs in 2015.

His record with Northern Ireland Under 21s also stands out.

His side finished second in their qualifying group for the 2019 Euro Under-21 Championships, just missing out on a playoff place.

One of the highlights of that campaign was a brilliant 2-1 win over Spain at the Carlos Belmonte Stadium.
