Ian Baraclough emerges as frontrunner to become next Northern Ireland boss

Ian Baraclough has emerged as the frontrunner to become Northern Ireland 's new manager.

The current international Under 21 coach was one of five candidates interviewed on Wednesday.

It had been thought that the Irish FA would make an announcement on Friday, but there is still no official confirmation.

It is understood that an offer has been to the preferred candidate.

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson, former St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright, IFA Elite Performance Director Jim Magilton and current Women's boss Kenny Shiels were also interviewed this week.

It is believed that Magilton, Wright and Shiels have not received any update from the IFA since being interviewed.

The BBC also reports that Motherwell - who gave Robinson permission to be interviewed - had not been contacted today.

It is believed there would be a compensation fee of around £100,000 if Robinson - who has two years left on his contract with the Steelmen - became Northern Ireland's new manager.

The process is now expected to go into the weekend before any official appointment is confirmed.
