Iain Lee defends sacked Danny Baker's racist Archie Harrison tweet

Iain Lee has come out fighting for sacked Danny Baker, after Danny Baker FIRED from BBC Radio 5 Live over 'racist' royal baby tweet over a racist tweet.

Yesterday, Danny had shared a black and white image of a woman and a man holding hands with a chimpanzee, which was wearing a coat, hat and cane.

Next to it he wrote: " Royal baby leaves hospital."

The tweet caused instant uproar, with users believing Danny had posted it to mock the newborn royal baby's biracial heritage.

Danny took it down a short time afterwards, claiming he hadn't intended any offence because his mind isn't "diseased".

"Sorry my gag pic of the little fella in the posh outfit has whipped some up. Never occurred to me because, well, mind not diseased," he wrote in the apology statement.

"Soon as those good enough to point out it’s possible connotations got in touch, down it came. And that's it. Now stand by for sweary football tweets."

However, his bosses at the BBC felt his way of handling the situation was unacceptable, and told him today he was fired from his once-a-week radio show.

Danny tweeted the news to his followers on Thursday morning, writing: "Just got fired from @bbc5live. For the record - it was red sauce. Always."

And while a slew of celebrities came out to celebrate the decision, talkRADIO's Iain backed Danny to the hilt.

"This is the wrong decision. Gutted for you and for radio mate," he told his pal.

Iain has since retweeted a host of old messages to his profile, burying his supportive tweet to Danny deep down his timeline.

Broadcaster Gyles Brandreth has also flung his support behind Danny, telling followers the tweet was a "mistake".

"All I'll say is: when it comes to trying to be funny, everyone makes mistakes. All I know is that Danny Baker prodnose is a great broadcaster, a fine writer and one of the most decent & delightful guys in the business. I'm honoured to know him," he wrote.

Danny replied: "Then (sotto voce): 'Get away from us you fool, you'll drown us all!' Thank you, Gyles."

The now former 5 Live presenter has tweeted a storm of criticism levelled against his former bosses since news of his sacking broke.

He branded them "craven", accused them of "chucking me under the bus" and "giving credence to the vampires" in a string of tweets.

"The call to fire me from bbc5live was a masterclass of pompous faux-gravity. Took a tone that said I actually meant that ridiculous tweet and the BBC must uphold blah blah blah. Literally threw me under the bus. Could hear the suits knees knocking. F**kem ," the 61-year-old added.
