I'm A Celeb's Richard Madeley blames illness on dehydration as he talks health scare

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! star Richard Madeley blamed his sudden illness on dehydration after being sent to the hospital.

The Good Morning Britain presenter fell ill overnight during his stint on the survival show and was taken to the hospital for a check-up.

He has since left this year's show due to ITV's Covid bubble policy. The presenter felt 'fit as a fiddle' following the incident but couldn't return.

"I reckon I must have been dehydrated that night (I’m forever not drinking enough water), because I got into my bunk and suddenly felt detached and discombobulated," the 65-year-old explained. "'Funny turn' really is about the only way of describing it.

"A nurse checked me over, but given my symptoms were so vague, it was recommended that I leave the camp and have some precautionary tests in hospital."

He continued on The Telegraph : "They completed a thorough MOT in about an hour, including a high tech once-over from a consultant, and I was given the all-clear by dawn."

However, as he had been in contact with hospital staff and more people, a 'slightly tearful producer' told him he wouldn't be able to return to Gwrych castle in North Wales.

I'm A Celeb returned to our screens on November 21, with the series being filmed in Gwrych Castle for the second year in a row.

However, after viewers witnessed Richard partake in the Kitchen Nightmares trial, Richard suddenly fell ill.

The presenter explained his shock exit from the ITV show, saying: “I just had a funny little turn.

“ITV are so good with duty of care and were adamant they had to make sure I was OK. I was given really thorough checks and had a completely clean bill of health.

“No matter what you might have read, I’m absolutely fine. It’s a Covid situation – if it wasn’t for that I’d be back there eating rice and beans.”

Meanwhile, the I'm A Celeb stars were evacuated from the castle due to a falling tree.

The celebrities were moved from the Welsh ruin to their pre-show quarantine rooms last night as Storm Arwen wreaks havoc on North Wales.

ITV bosses confirmed the celebrities had been put back into solo quarantine to keep the show Covid secure, but there are fears it may take days before they can return to site and the show can continue.

Due to the 80mph winds at the site, trees were being uprooted which made it unsafe for people to be in the area.

Hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly had pre-recorded Friday's show whilst Saturday and Sunday's shows have been taken off air all together.
