‘I would’ve went to jail’: Tate McRae takes group photo with fan’s phone at Austin concert. Then a woman next to the fan asks for the picture

Recently, Tate McRae has been delighting fans on her tour. However, one excited fan’s concert experience quickly turned into a bitter disappointment.

In the nine-minute clip, which has amassed 713,000 views, TikToker Ellen Khan (@everythingellen_) broke down the full story.

She began by explaining that she’s a huge fan of the singer—even driving almost four hours in order to see her in concert.

Khan said she got tickets “within arm’s reach” of the standing area, which was right next to the stage. As the concert goes on, the TikToker notes that McRae was doing her usual fan interaction with concertgoers at the edge of the stage, with people handing their phones to her to take photos.

McRae ended up grabbing the phone of the girl beside her, taking a photo. Khan says that when she asked for the photo to be sent to her, the girl didn’t answer before claiming her phone was going to die.

In response, Khan offers a battery pack, which the girl ends up using for the rest of the concert.

What happened with the photo?

As the concert ends, she once again asks the girl to send the photo, to which she replies: “For a price.”

At first, she charges $200, but after protestations, she lowered it to $100.

“I was like stunned at how awful she turned,” Khan noted. She went on to emphasize how “rare” it is for an artist to take a photo like that on someone’s phone, noting that “nobody gets that lucky.”

To add insult to injury, Khan asks for her charger back—but the other girl says no, and takes her charger.

In search of the photo, the TikToker looked through all relevant hashtags to find it. She wasn’t successful, but what she did notice was how, on the other side of the concert, a similar photo was taken—except the fan clearly shared the image with fans, so it was shared multiple times.

“I hope Tate McRae sees this because guess what, you have an un-girl’s girl at your concert, and I got a picture with you and I can’t get it,” Khan concluded.

Khan didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via TikTok comment and Instagram direct message.

Commenters were supportive

In the comments, users were. furious for Ellen. “oh hellllllllllllllllll noooooooooooooooooo ok I’m actually fuming,” one wrote.

“I would’ve went to jail,” another admitted.

A third user tagged Tate McRae and emphasized, “If Tate McRae knew this !!!! She would not support that mean girl!!”

While a fourth added, “The way my jaw hit the floor.”

A plot twist

Then, the plot thickened.

The girl in question took to the comments of Khan’s TikTok and claimed she actually sent the video, and in response, Khan made a follow-up where she called her out for her actions at the concert—noting how the fact that it was actually a video and not a photo shows just how out of the loop she was.

She also shared an Instagram screenshot by the girl who asked her to take the video down, before going on to thank viewers.

“The fact that I was able to use TikTok and all you amazing girls to be able to get the video is just amazing,” she said.

Artists on bad concert behavior

Khan isn’t the only TikToker to call out poor concert behavior. Over in the UK, musician and YouTuber James Marriott (@toomuchmarriott) shared his own story, which involves an audience member touching him inappropriately.

“If you’re ever going to see someone’s show, whoever they are, they don’t want that,” he said. So, whether it’s fellow concert-goers or the artist in question, respect is always key.
