'I would never have let you leave' Mum of missing Jamie Cannon shares poignant video appeal

The mum of missing Scots teenager Jamie Cannon shared an emotional video appeal five months after her son disappeared.

The 19-year-old left his home in Saltcoats, North Ayrshire to go to college at 10am on Monday, May 20 and has not been seen since.

Jamie's bank accounts have not been used and his mobile phone remains switched off.

Despite numerous searches by both Police Scotland and Jamie's friends, family and wider community, no trace of the teenager has been found.

His devastated mum Lynn Cannon today shared a video tribute appealing for people to help locate him.

She said she would never have let him leave the house if she knew that would be the last time she saw him'.

Emotional video footage shows a number of loved ones pose with their hands across their mouths.

Written on their hands is the message #helpfindjamiecannon.

The poignant montage plays Oasis hit, Stand By Me alongside the series of clips.

Lynn wrote: "Today we have been searching for five months looking for you, Jamie.

"If I had known that morning would have been the last time I would have seen you I wouldn't have let you leave the house.

"No one truly understands the heartbreak of not seeing your face or hearing your voice.

"It's soul destroying and tearing us all more apart daily.

The boys miss having you to look up to, play the computer with you, slag you for your messy hair, even your crabitness."

She added: "I miss you making us a nice steak dinner, because I couldn't do it as good as you.

"The smallest wee things mean the world to me and more.

"I miss the smell of your aftershave in the room lingering through the house.

"I'm absolutely heartbroken and seems everywhere we are all looking for you is coming back with nothing, I will never stop looking for you until you're home, my boy.

"I would also like to thank each and every single person who is keeping Jamie's face out there, sharing posts, asking for posters to put up in your area, all your donations to get the dogs over and helping us search, generally being there for us all as a family."

Last month we told how specialist search teams, including Northern Ireland rescue dogs were involved in searches for Jamie.

K9 Search and Rescue spent two days in Scotland at the weekend using specialist equipment to help find traces of the teenager.

The search focused on the former ICI plant in Stevenston, North Ayrshire, with their rescue dogs deployed to see if they could sniff out clues.

The team regularly aid the coastguard in missing person investigations, and their dogs are trained in 'victim recovery'.

Despite searching in hidden shafts, underground bunkers and passageways they were unable to detect anything.

A representative from the team said: "K9 Search & Recovery working with K9 Search & Rescue NI.

"Complex and technically demanding search area today.

"Hidden shafts, underground bunkers and passage ways, drainage sumps derelict buildings and numerous wasps nests.

"All credit to the dogs search technicians and local vet."

Jamie is described as being sic foot, one inch tall and was wearing grey jogging bottoms, grey trainers, and a blue jacket when he was last seen.

He was also carrying a camouflage backpack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 1623 of May 22.
