Nobody wants to find an unexpected surprise in the produce section. Not even a cute, four-legged amphibian. One woman shared how she found a stowaway critter in a lettuce container while shopping at Aldi.
In a video with 1.6 million views, Florida-based TikToker Jahnay (@jah__nay) pushes a shopping cart in Aldi.
“So, I am in Aldi, minding my business by the lettuce,” she says. “Look what I found.”
When she pulls out a plastic lettuce container, she turns it to reveal what appears to be a small green Pacific Tree frog with brown undertones, sandwiched between the lettuce head and the container. Upon further examination, the frog’s stomach is observed to be inhaling and exhaling. “It’s breathing, bro,” she adds as the frog moves its arms.
However, this hiccup doesn’t change Jahnay’s feelings about the store. In fact, she cracks a joke about this in the caption. “Lmaoo at least you know the lettuce is fresh,” she writes, accompanied by a crying emoji. “Still my favorite store.”
What would viewers have done?
Many were divided on this situation. Some didn’t see this as a problem and would’ve kept the frog.
“I would be SOOO excited to find that. I LOVE frogs,” one viewer shared.
“You get food and you get a pet. 10/10 deal,” another revealed.
“I would’ve bought it just to drop it off by a [nearby] pond,” a third said.
Meanwhile, others wouldn’t have been thrilled to discover the amphibian.
“Imagine getting home, opening your container of lettuce and a leaf jumps to the ceiling. I would sue for emotional distress,” one commenter remarked.
“IM AFRAID OF FROGS, I WOULD HAVE PASSED OUT,” a second stated.
What did Jahnay do?
In response to a viewer, Jahnay replied that she was torn about purchasing the lettuce to free the frog, but decided not to. “I honestly thought about that when I got home but the cashier said she would let it go outside. hopefully she did,” she said.
How can a frog end up in a lettuce container?
Believe it or not, this occurrence does happen. Live Science reported that from 2003 to 2019, 53% of the 38 cases of live animals discovered in premade salads were frogs. Since frogs live in moist environments, they may seek out lettuce fields because they provide an ideal habitat. As a result, they can wind up in your salad during lettuce production.

What do if you find a frog in your produce
Fox 66 advises against releasing them into the wild, as it’s not their native habitat. Instead, contact your local invasive species program, veterinarian, or humane society.
