"I would cry" - photos show damage to car hit by fallen lamp post

A lamp post fell on to a car outside a Liverpool supermarket - leaving one unlucky owner with a huge dent in the bonnet to come back to after their shopping.

The Audi A3, which retails with a starting price of nearly £38,000, was parked in the Morrisons car park on Penketh Drive in Speke when the lamp post came crashing down this morning.

Photos taken at the scene show police stood next to the vehicle, which was left badly dented in the incident.

The lamp post appears to have narrowly missed a black Range Rover parked in the adjacent space, with both cars parked near to the entrance of TX Maxx on the retail park.

It is unclear whether the falling post was caused by heavy winds - and a number of Speke residents have pointed out their relief that no one was walking past at the time.

Commenting on photos of the damage in a local community group, one resident said: "Somebody isn’t going to be very happy when they come out of work or shops to their car like this."

Another Facebook user said: "I would cry. Lucky it wasn't a person. Winds are bad today."

Other locals pointed out how unlucky the driver was to own the only car that appeared to be badly damaged by the fallen post, while others said it was lucky no one was inside.

Morrisons were contacted for a comment about the incident but had not responded by the time of publication.
