'I worry for Newcastle' - Ian Wright backs Fulham to drag Magpies into the relegation battle

The mentality of Fulham towards achieving Premier League survival will be much better than the mentality of Newcastle United.

That is the view of Arsenal legend Ian Wright who admits he worries the Magpies will be dragged into a relegation battle.

United are without a win in their last nine matches and the pressure continues to grow on Steve Bruce amid growing unrest among supporters after a season of dire performances.

As well as drawing against Newcastle, the Cottagers have beaten Leicester and drawn against the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Southampton and will emerge from a difficult period of matches with a renewed belief.

That said, following Fulham's 2-1 defeat to Premier League leaders Manchester United on Wednesday evening, Newcastle maintain a seven point gap between themselves and the bottom three.

But Wright feels that is meaningless at the halfway stage of the season and feels the current momentum of both clubs will see Newcastle dragged into trouble and will see Scott Parker's side drag themselves out of the bottom three.

"The mentality of Fulham right now will be much better than the mentality of Newcastle who are seven points in front of them," Wright told the 'Wrighty's House' show on the Ringer FC podcast.

"It is all about momentum.

"Leeds, Wolves and I would say Newcastle, if I am their fans at the moment I think I would be feeling a little bit nervy.

"Especially with Brighton, Burnley and Fulham who are 16th, 17th and 18th respectively. There can be faults with where you are in the league in terms of how you are feeling at this moment in time.

"Fulham, with the way that Scott Parker has them organised and the way they are playing, look like a danger. They look like a problem.

"They are not as easy to beat. [Andre-Frank Zambo] Anguissa is very good, Ademola Lookman causes problems, I like Antonee Robinson, Ola Aina is a really good player - they have players who are playing really well in the system they are playing.

"They will feel like they can get out of it but they do need to nick some more goals. I worry for Wolves, Newcastle and I think Leeds need to start getting back to the Leeds that start of the season."
