'I work on a cruise ship - my room is a shoebox while guests live in luxury'

You might assume that people working on a cruise ship are given the same luxuries that the paying guests receive, but one woman on TikTok has proven that's not the case - by showing off the tiny room she lives in while working out at sea.

Summer Edwards works as a dancer on a cruise ship, and while she loves her job, she can't help but notice the massive differences between the "shoebox" she lives in and the spacious luxury rooms given to guests.

In a viral video, Summer ran through several of the differences between the two types of living, as she showed off the space-saving features in her own tiny room - including a pull-down bed and a toilet that shares space with her shower.

The woman started her clip by saying: "I'm sorry you have to see this. Let's do it."

Summer, who posts under the username @summeredwxo, then filmed herself in one of the empty guest cabins alongside footage from her own room, where the differences were immediately obvious.

She said: "In a guest cabin, there is a massive double bed. In my cabin, the bed is literally a shelf on the wall.

"In a guest cabin, there is so much storage. In my cabin, the storage is very minimal.

"In a guest cabin, there is so much room for activities. In my cabin, I can touch the walls on either side.

"In a guest cabin, the bathroom is gorgeous and the shower is huge. In my cabin, the sink is my room and my toilet is in my shower."

For her final point, Summer showed off the large windows and sliding doors in the guest cabins that take them out onto their own outdoor area where they can sit and admire the open ocean - in contrast to the dancer's own room, which has no windows and is completely dark when the lights are turned off.

She explained: "And last but not least, in a guest cabin, there's a view of the ocean. And in my cabin, it's a black abyss."

But Summer insisted her small living space doesn't matter too much to her, as she wrote in the caption: "I do love my little shoebox though, feels like home."

Commenters on the TikTok video - which has over 282,000 likes - couldn't believe how small Summer's room is, and said she should be entitled to more storage given that she actually lives on the ship.

One person said: "I feel like your cabin should have more storage since you live there."

While another added: "Employees definitely need more room since you're like living on it."

And Summer also clarified that not everyone who works on board the ship has a room like hers, as the Captain and other high-ranking officers have rooms that are more like "apartments".

Replying to a comment that stated the Captain probably has a "sweet cabin", she said: "Oh, their cabins are literally apartments!"
