'I wish they'd given me a seven-year deal' Kilmarnock midfielder Alan Power reflects on new contract

By Marc Birch

Alan Power reckons he’s playing the best football of his career under Steve Clarke.

The Kilmarnock midfielder put pen to paper on a new three-year contract this week.

The Irishman has become a permanent fixture in the Kilmarnock side over the last year or so, enough to earn him an extension at Rugby Park.

Power mentioned manager Steve Clarkes influence on his performances of late and how he has affected the whole feel round the club since his arrival.

With this new deal confirmed Alan Power hopes to repay his manager on the field.

Power said: “I’m really happy, been talking about it for a little bit now, possibly an extension to give myself a little bit of security.

“I’m really delighted, I think the club is doing good things at the minute, so I was happy to sign.”

Speaking on his time in Scotland, Power said: “I would say the past year and a half has been good for myself, the first couple of months was a bit of a struggle getting the family up and everyone settled. Apart from that it’s been brilliant!”

On his managers influence Power added:”I think he’s got me playing the best football of my career.

“His guidance and the faith he’s had in me since he’s came in, it’s really helped me over the past year and a half.

“I’m probably hitting heights now I didn’t think I could reach a couple of years ago, playing non-league football.

“I’m the fittest I’ve ever been, so hopefully there’s a lot more years left in me, I wish they’d given me a seven-year contract!

“Our aim now, we secured top 6, able to beat the points tally from last year so as many wins as we can get from now to the end of the season.”

When asked about his managers potential interest in the Scotland national team job, Power smiled saying:”I think there’s always going to be talk about our gaffer with jobs, but I think he’s more than happy here, I think Kilmarnock’s the bigger job!”

Power’s first game since his new contract signing comes as Kilmarnock face Hamilton on Saturday at Rugby Park.
