'I will literally crawl off the pitch if I have to' — Kieffer Moore sends emphatic message to Wales boss Rob Page

Kieffer Moore has told Rob Page he's ready to give everything he has for his team this summer after bailing Wales out against Switzerland in Baku.

After a hefty amount of speculation, Moore started from the off in the Euro 2020 opener, and justified his selection with a sensational equaliser 15 minutes from time, cancelling out Breel Embolo's opener with a trademark towering header.

It was a goal that came on the back of a pretty public clamour for Moore's selection from fans and indeed some sections of the media, with Page previously showing a preference towards a 'false nine' ahead of the Cardiff City star.

Indeed, Moore has often found himself on the periphery under Page, starting just two of the last eight games before the draw in Baku.

It's a situation that's clearly left Moore himself a little frustrated at times, but he insists he is no less dedicated to the cause.

"Obviously the false nine came in and as a nine that's probably not ideal," he said. "But you know we were getting results and we were beating good teams.

"It was working for us. As soon as they told me I was playing, I was made up. I really do feel like every time I put on a Wales shirt, I give it my all and I'm a goal threat, and really do occupy defenders.

"I didn't like being out of the team but I'm happy I'm back in and scoring goals.

"It's been a hell of a journey and for me to start off this campaign with a goal and to even be in the starting line-up is a huge landmark for me and something I'm very proud of."

As well as his goal, Moore showed little hesitation in getting stuck in, and found himself in the wars at times. Indeed, he had to be bandaged up after a nasty clash of heads in the first half.

"It's OK," said Moore when asked about his head. "I obviously took a big whack but it was worth it for the goal I suppose.

"It was just to stop the bleeding really, but I think it actually gave me a bit of grip for the header as well!"

Moore should perhaps give himself a little more credit, but given his journey to this point, it's perhaps easy to understand his humility.

When Gareth Bale and co. were lighting up Euro 2016, Moore was plying his trade for Forest Green Rovers in the National League.

And, having worked so hard for his opportunity on the international stage, he has no intention of taking his foot off the gas.

"I think it's just a landmark for me really. Ever since we qualified I've dreamed of this moment and visualised this moment. As soon as that ball came in, and as soon as I made my run I knew I was going to score.

"I'll give my everything for the team. I'll literally crawl off the pitch if I have to. That's always been my responsibility. It's not so much the type of player I am, but the type of person I am. I'll always try my best and I'll give it my all.

"I love it. As a striker, when you have such a burden on your shoulders, you can only really take responsibility from it. I thrive on situations like that. We've got a lot of goal threats in the team, but I've just got to keep doing what I'm doing and keep working hard."

Jonny Williams recently revealed that Moore's earned the nickname 'Zlatan' at Cardiff, and Moore himself admits he's been taking notes from some of the very best in the business in a bid to strengthen his own game.

"When I do a bit of research and try to look at other people's style of play and other strikers' style of play. I look at target men, I look at agile nines, I take everything from everyone.

"The biggest one was the Brazilian Ronaldo. I've watched a lot of his stuff and I loved the way he played.

"To score in the first game is a massive confidence boost for me and I'm just going to take that momentum into the next couple of games."
