When Donald Trump announced he would be leaving his business interests “in total” via a series of tweets on Wednesday morning, he initially seemed to leave some of the key words hanging. In response, Twitter users offered their own suggestions to finish his sentence.
In the first tweet in the series, sent at 6.39am on 30 November, the president-elect teased a “major news conference” with his children to be held in New York City on 15 December “to discuss the fact that I will be leaving my …”
As Twitter has a character limit, Trump was using an ellipsis to indicate a connection between his separate tweets and followed up with three others. But many took his punctuation as an invitation to speculate over what the president-elect would be leaving.
