As technology continues to advance, it has made grocery shopping more convenient. At the tip of the customer’s fingers, they can order whatever they want from the retailer of their choice. From there, they have the option to pick up their order or have it delivered to their doorstep. However, there is always a catch: fees. For those who decide to do Walmart Pickup, one woman reveals a loophole on how to avoid fees on your next order.
In a video with over 110,000 views, Utah-based stay-at-home mother Kaelyn Jackson (@kaelynandtheboys) sits in her car.
“If you guys use Walmart Pick-Up like me, literally all the time, I’m gonna tell you a little life hack,” she says. “You already know you have to spend a $30 minimum on groceries or they charge you a $7 pickup fee.”
But she found a clever way to dodge the extra charge. “If you add one non-grocery item to your pickup order, it makes it free no matter what the cost is,” the content creator explains. “So, if you just have a couple of groceries you need to pick up, but then you also need a stick of deodorant or whatever, just add that to your pickup order and then you won’t have to pay that $7 fee.”
Jackson hopes this piece of knowledge could help others. “Hopefully this will help you save a lil $$$,” she writes in the caption.
Did it work for viewers?
There were mixed outcomes for viewers in the comments section. Many rushed to their phones to place their pickup orders to test it out. Some claimed it worked for them.
“Thank you, sincerely a mom with a super sick toddler. It worked for me,” one viewer shared.
“Mine worked with 0 perishable items but as soon as I added a perishable item it added the fee,” another noted.
A third added, “I will be doing this today thank you.”
Meanwhile, this hack failed for others.
“Just tried it and didn’t work. still tried to charge me the $6 fee,” one commenter remarked.
“Didn’t work for me. The fee was still added for me,” a second echoed.
Is there an alternative way to avoid the Walmart Pickup fee?
Indeed, there are. Walmart’s website states the following options:
- Certain items are eligible for free pickup. When you open your app, check the message under the Pickup icon to see if the product qualifies.
- Walmart+ members can score both free pickup and delivery.
- Because every location is different, some require a minimum threshold of $35.
- Canceling your order before it ships is exempt from payment.
