'I will always be around... I'm sorry' - mum-of-three found dead after asking boyfriend to go to shops

A mum-of-three from Wigan was found dead by her boyfriend after asking him to go to the shop for some drinks.

Leanne Shaw, 30, took her own life at a property in Claremont Avenue on March 3 after a long and agonising battle with drug addiction.

She left several heartbreaking notes for her loved ones apologising for the pain she had put them through.

At an inquest into her death, her mother said she was a bright pupil at school and had dreamed of becoming a lawyer.

However, she fell in with the wrong crowd which sadly led to her becoming addicted to heroin and crack cocaine.

Bolton Coroners Court heard how Ms Shaw, who lived in Hindley, had been with her on-off boyfriend at his house on February 20 when they decided to break up.

He didn’t see her again until March 3 when she phoned him from her brother’s house saying she wanted to check how he was.

They both went back to his house later that day and spoke about their relationship. Leanne then asked him to go to a nearby shop to get them some alcohol.

Leanne called her brother to ask what time the chemist closed as she had missed picking up her medication.

She asked her partner to go to the shop again to get them more drinks.

He returned after no longer than 10 minutes and noticed the step ladder at the top of the stairs out of place.

Tragically, Leanne was found hanged in the loft.

Initially her boyfriend saw her leg and tickled it thinking she was playing but she didn’t react.

He immediately dialled 999 and gave Leanne chest compressions while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

She was put into intensive care at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary but was sadly pronounced dead on March 8.

Leanne left three notes for her partner, her children and her brother.

In a note addressed to her partner, she said she was sorry for all the hurt she put him through, that she loved him and that she wished things were different.

In a letter to her children, she said: “I love you. I will always be around – I'm sorry.”

Leanne was found to have a “cocktail of drugs” in her system at the time of her death and sustained a brain injury as a result of hanging and an overdose of drugs.

Before ruling the cause of death, coroner Catherine Cundy said: “Sadly this is another death of someone far too young whose life has been ruined by drugs.”

Ms Cundy listed the cause of death as suicide.
