Wigan's MP says she was not included in a government briefing on local lockdown restrictions.
Earlier today. Greater Manchester MPs were informed that the region would be placed in 'tier two' of the new lockdown structure, ahead of an announcement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson later on.
It is a huge announcement for the region and means restaurants, bars and pubs will be allowed to stay open.
However, Lisa Nandy says she was not invited to the briefing and only found out the news from Twitter.
In a Tweet, the Shadow Foreign Secretary said: "Just learnt Greater Manchester will be placed into tier 2 restrictions via Twitter.
"Apparently there was a government briefing for GM MPs but I can’t provide details because I wasn’t invited.
"I suspect this is because they don’t know where Wigan is. What an absolute shambles."
It is understood other MPs from across the region were briefed about the plans at lunchtime.
The new three-tier system will offer a more standardised approach to lockdown measures, with restrictions eased where infection rates are low and new rules coming into force where are higher.
Liverpool and the surrounding area are set to be under the strictest rules, 'tier three' while all of Greater Manchester will fall under 'tier two'.
More information on how the changes will work and what they will mean for people across the country is expected in an announcement from Mr Johnson at around 3.30pm.
