'I was waiting a long time' - Pedro Chirivella gets what he's always wanted during Liverpool win

Pedro Chirivella hailed the contribution of the "best fans in the world" after Liverpool beat Everton 1-0 at Anfield in the FA Cup on Sunday.

settled the tie as a second string side beat Carlo Ancelotti's virtually full-strength lineup to extend an unbeaten home record that dates back to September 1999.

Chirivella starred in midfield for Jurgen Klopp 's youthful-looking team as he made his fourth appearance of the season.

The Spaniard, whose registration issues led to Liverpool being subject to a potential expulsion from the Carabao Cup back in September, hailed the Anfield fans who helped an inexperienced XI past their local rivals in the 235th meeting between the clubs.

"It was unbelievable," he said. "I can’t wait to see my family to see what they tell me, how it looked from the stands. I don’t expect anything else from the best fans in the world.

"It was a starting XI who probably never played together but the first 20 minutes it was good it was chaotic because we got the crowd going and we played with 12 men, they were with us the whole game.

"After that, we got control of the game in midfield and started passing the ball to each other and creating chances. I think in the second half we were much better than them and we deserved to go through to the next round.

"When Liverpool plays our way then it’s hard for any team, no matter the players who are on the pitch. We train all together and we try to get better with each other and I think it was hard for Everton today because we were very good."

The game's decisive moment came via the city-centre-born Jones, who curled one off the underside of the crossbar from around 25 yards to leave Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with no chance.

Chirivella said he was delighted for the 18-year-old Scouser and explained what was asked of the inexperienced team by Klopp before kick-off at Anfield.

He added: "I’ve known Curtis for a long time and I’m super happy for him. I know he has this special thing that only a few players have and I’m very, very happy that finally he is showing what a talent he is.

"I played with the likes of Neco, Harvey and Curtis for a long time. At the end of the day, we just play football and it doesn’t matter if it’s U23s or first team, we have to give everything and just be ready for every chance we get. I think we showed that we are ready.

"We got told just to give everything, not to worry if we are not right in the press or are not pressing well, just give everything and run for each other. Everyone was responsible for everyone and I think we did that and we are very proud of it.

"It was great, it was something I was waiting for a long time and finally I played a good game and the team won. We are very happy."
