Our parents were right, it really is that phone that’s the problem. In today’s day and age it’s all too easy to get distracted by our phones and inadvertently put ourselves in danger. Well one woman on TikTok has shared the footage and aftermath showing what can happen when one isn’t aware of their surroundings.
Aydaly shared CCTV footage that captured the horrific moment of her accident and it plays like something out of a Final Destination movie. In the clip we see her come around the van and walk towards the gate all the while looking at her phone. At the same time, the van can be seen slowly moving backwards but she seems completely oblivious to it.
Aydaly doesn’t realize anything is wrong until it’s too late. As she’s standing, facing the gate, with her back to the van, it slowly backs into her, pinning her there, you can hear her cry out as it happens. Luckily the gates do swing open so she was presumably able to free herself pretty quick, but she shares pictures of the aftermath and it’s pretty gnarly.
In the caption she explains that she left the van in reverse without realizing. While she may have assumed it was stationary, once she got out, the vehicle began to move on its own.
A lesson for all
The video serves as a lesson for everyone on how important it is to be aware of your surroundings. Phones can be a big distraction, even when you think you’re in a safe environment. In this woman’s case, the incident wasn’t as bad as it could have been, she could have easily lost her life had it played out a little differently.
Comments noted how lucky Aydaly was to have survived with many drawing comparisons to famous actor Anton Yelchin, who died after a very similar accident. In 2016, Yelchin was sadly killed when his SUV rolled down the driveway and crushed him to death. “Girl that [sic] so dangerous! Glad you’re ok! That’s how Anton Yelchin passed,” one commenter wrote, “Reminds me of what happened to Anton Yelchin,” added another.
While some comments unnecessarily mocked her, others wished Aydaly a speedy recovery and it seems like she’s doing a lot better since the accident. In an update video, Aydaly showed that she was healing up nicely. While the bruises on her leg looked pretty bad, it seems there was no serious or lasting damage from the van attack. Hopefully her video helps those who are always glued to their phone to learn to be a bit more attentive in the future.
