Kate Eden says everything was shaking when Monday night's ferocious storm hit her Shortland home, including herself.
"My husband was holding me," Ms Eden said.
"I said 'I'm calm', but I really wasn't.
"I was just shaking.
"There was lots of noise. It was pretty scary."
The fear Ms Eden experienced from what she could feel and hear was exacerbated whenever lightning lit up the sky and showed the extent of the damage around her home.
"It was pitch black outside but when the lightning stuck, we saw the Bali hut was upside down in the pool," she said.
"I thought oh my god.
"We heard a big noise out the front and then another lightning flash hit and I saw my son's car was under a tree."
The tin roof of Ms Eden's studio on the property was also blown clean off and the guttering ended up over in her next door neighbour's yard.
Ms Eden said she sat at the window watching the rest of the wild storm roll over, and thankfully, it didn't take long to pass.
"It was just over so quickly," she said.
"I've never seen anything like it."

But despite the weather calming down swiftly, it was still a restless night for Ms Eden along with many other residents in the area who were impacted by the storm's fury.
"I'm still a bit shaken up," Ms Eden said at lunchtime on Tuesday.
But she considers herself lucky that the damage wasn't worse - with her home still intact - and that no one was harmed.
"We're incredibly lucky," she said. "We're insured.
"We were very, very fortunate."
