'I was really happy for him': Allan Saint-Maximin pays tribute to Joelinton

Allan Saint-Maximin has heaped praise on Joelinton after the Brazilian striker scored his first goal in the Premier League since August.

Joelinton applied a cool finish late in the second half after shrugging off his first half at the Leazes End.

The goal was actually his fourth of the season including cup goals but the strike was a much needed moment for the £40million man.

Saint-Maximin said: "I was really happy for him. He worked very hard.

"Sometimes it is very difficult and strikers have difficult times. I hope this goal can help him score against Aston Villa."

Saint-Maximin put Newcastle on the road to victory with a goal from close range after Matt Ritchie's cross.

Saint-Maximin said: "It was important to get the win. You always have to be ready.

"I just wanted to score a goal and help my team. I think everybody was happy because it worked out."
