'I was mum-shamed in Marks and Spencer for my food shop - it was savage'

A mum was shocked and upset after a woman shamed her for the food she had bought for her kids while shopping in Marks & Spencer.

The woman took to TikTok to share her outrage at the incident which saw the rude shopper claim there was too much sugar in treats the mum had in her basket and too much salt in the main dish.

Kirsty Ketley, a qualified Early Years Practitioner and parenting specialist, felt like she was being 'mum-shamed' by the stranger as she went to get her kid's tea for that day in the popular chain store.

In the TikTok which has now received over 17,000 views, Kirsty explained: "So just before the school run I nipped to Marks and Spencer to get a few little bits that we needed and I got properly mum-shamed by this lady in there.

"It was all to do with the contents of my basket."

The mum-of two added that she had picked up a beef cannelloni ready meal, two gingerbread cookies and a garlic bread baguette for her kids tea.

But as she was walking around the store a woman approached her and shared her thoughts on the contents of the basket.

The woman asked who the food was for and when the mum replied that it was for her kids, the woman replied: "A lot of salt in that for kids."

She then moved onto the Valentine's themed gingerbread biscuits and asked: "I suppose they're for the kids as well?"

After the mum confirmed the suspicions, the woman took issue with the sugar content of the treats before she tutted and walked away from the bemused mum.

She said: "I was probably really red-faced but I didn't say anything.

"But I'm just so wound up. Why would someone want to mum-shame me like that. I know that there's salt in the beef cannelloni, I know there's sugar in a gingerbread biscuit.

"I'm not a moron and the thing is, the kids don't eat like this all the time - it's just every now and then."
