In recent years, I have seen celebrities master the aesthetic through various cabinet styles, textured furnishings, and brass finishes, but Stephen and Ayesha Curry's slab backsplash is the one feature that truly made me stop in my tracks. I previously wrote about how the 'slab' nature was a backsplash trend in its own right, but after revisiting the space, I'd argue that it deserves yet more recognition.
It may be only May, but design forecasters have already started to think about the year ahead, and with that comes the question of how current trends will adapt to endure into a new year. When it comes to quiet luxury, I predict slab backsplashes will keep this style current, and no space does it quite like Ayesha and Stephen Curry's.

What exactly makes the slab backsplash so quietly luxurious? Firstly, they're often formed of high-quality materials, the basis of the 'trend'. However, as Courtney Cole, an interior designer at Yabby, explains, their uninterrupted size also gives the sense of luxury, without it feeling too overpowering.
'Having a slab backsplash in your kitchen gives the room a sleek and seamless look that can make the kitchen look more elegant. It all comes down to the choice of the homeowner, but some people [like Stephen and Ayesha] prefer the look of a continuous backsplash without grout lines, which you won't have with traditional tiled backsplashes,' she says.
A slab backsplash is a good choice if you want a clean and uninterrupted look to the kitchen, which is great in modern kitchens.'
What sets Ayesha and Stephen Curry's backsplash apart is that, alongside covering the entire wall, the same gray marble continues onto their countertops. This is a seemingly small detail, but it makes their space feel so much more bespoke and cohesive.
It appears as though they have used the same marble for their open shelves, too, further emphasizing how seamless this feature can look. Plus, this look is surprisingly easy to maintain because nothing ruins the quiet luxury aesthetic quicker than dirt.
'Using a material like marble or quartz for a slab backsplash will look great and will also be durable and easy to clean,' Courtney says.
'While these materials are less resistant to scratches than some other materials, that's not an issue since this is a splashback, and not having grout lines will mean you don’t have to scrub out buildup over time.'
