'I want to name my baby after myself - but I'm worried it's weird'

A mum has been faced with some backlash online after she announced she was considering naming her newborn daughter after herself. Mum Kyla took to Reddit to discuss whether it might be too egotistical to do this, but felt as men have done she would be able to get away with it.

In the post she explains that everybody she has spoken to about other names so far has hated her choices and feels by naming the baby Kayla, at least everybody will agree it is a nice name. She asked: "I've been thinking way too hard on baby names and I've figured if everyone hates every name I suggest or even make up myself then I might as well just go with name, right?"

Kayla continued by suggesting that as men have been known to do this by calling sons after themselves or adding Junior at the end of the son's name, it should be ok for her to do the same thing with her daughter.

However, the only thing holding her back is the notion of having another Kayla in the house, which does not sit completely fine with her.

"My names Kayla and I'd feel weird about having another Kayla in the house is all. Kayla Jillian maybe," she asked in the online post.

She claims that the stress of naming her child is getting to her so she decided to reach out to Reddit for advice.

One Redditor replied by saying: "While I think it’s the very epitome of egotistical women do do it. Mary Shelley had the same name as her mother. I’ve seen some others."

While another person felt that it is just a matter for her and her partner so if they both agree that is fine. They replied to her by saying: "People are very opinionated when it comes to baby names. But the only one you have to reach an agreement with is your partner. If you feel like you get too much hate, just discuss with your partner and keep everyone else out of it."
