I want to encourage conversation in my living room, and Emily Ratajkowski's seating is the answer – it's stylish and easy to replicate

I love entertaining, so I am always on the hunt for the best conversational seating ideas. These arrangements automatically invite guests in. They are supremely stylish and welcoming. However, they can be difficult to pull off.

Now that I've seen Emily Ratajkowski's living room furniture, my search is done.

I spotted the actress's space in an Instagram post where she perches on the couch. Her sofa is celadon velvet, with a notable curve. It centers on her pink marble coffee table. Behind the couch, a tree style lamp and large painting add dimension to the background.

So, what makes the model's living room sofa idea so revolutionary to me? First, the curved shape of the furnishing adds a modern touch to the conversational layout. It gives the room the feel of a 1970s conversation pit, where all the furnishings orient people towards one another.

The organic feel of the curved furnishing is also essential to what makes the room so inviting; it takes out the harshness of clean lines, creating a soft place where visitors will want to land.

Emily further creates a conversational environment with her living room layout. Most classically, the position of the coffee table in front of the sofa creates a spot to eat, rest a laptop, and share coffee or wine. This table immediately invites spending time together.

In a more interesting move, the placement of the tree lamps and the painting behind the curved sofa helps to make it a focal point in the room. These multiple levels centering on the sofa encourage friends and family members passing through the room to take a seat and engage in a lively discussion.

To recreate Emily's conversational seating, I recommend starting with a curved sofa. In this case, a statement color creates a warm and welcome environment, but I think that a neutral piece of curved furniture can also work. Then, use tables and lamps to frame the sofa as the center point of the room. The best part of this idea is that it is highly versatile and therefore customizable to your taste.

Different layouts work best for different rooms, but welcoming conversation is always in style. When the look can be accomplished with just one piece of furniture, it's a no brainer.
