Day trips from Liverpool are always a must, and Aber Falls in Conwy County, Wales, is definitely a sight to see.
The waterfall takes around an hour and a half to reach by car from Liverpool, or in my case, an hour and 10 minutes from Wirral.
Named a ‘hidden gem’ amongst visitors, the waterfall has a five star rating on reviews site Tripadvisor, which helped it top UK waterfalls Grey Mare’s Tail in Scotland.

After reading the reviews, I was desperate to visit this spot, and chose a nice sunny spring weekend to visit the waterfall.
The waterfall
Travel wise, the waterfall was relatively easy to get to, it took around one hour and 10 minutes from Wirral and the journey was smooth and scenic. We went on the A53 and joined the North Wales expressway, and followed the North Wales coastline until we got to the waterfall.
It was very much tucked away, up some long narrow and winding lanes, but there was a car park, which was convenient. As a heads up, there is a parking fee of £5 at the waterfall, so make sure you’ve got some spare change!

We parked up and walked to the waterfall, which took about an hour of relatively easy terrain with some small uphill sections. The sun was shining and the views were amazing, and that was before we even got to the waterfall!
As we got closer and closer, we could hear the water in the distance and got a small glimpse of the waterfall - it looked magical. It was relatively busy at the waterfall, but not too busy, and as we reached Aber Falls, it took our breath away.
The waterfall looked like something out of a movie, a magical one like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, it was a sight to behold. The best part? You could get really close to it if you wanted to, which made for a perfect picture opportunity, or a chance for a spritz and cool down from the water.
It was absolutely massive, and although it was in the shade, it still glimmered a beautiful blue. We walked around past the waterfall and reached another section of the pathway which was golden from the sunlight.
Those who wanted to walk further could have, but my boyfriend and I chose to loop back round and head to our next destination.
Since it was such a beautiful day, we decided to visit Traeth Llanfairfechan Beach, which was a 5-minute drive away.

It was a quiet beach area surrounded by stunning lush green hills and very few tourists, which made it extra special. We grabbed an ice cream from the local café and strolled along the beach, reminiscing on the glorious day we’d had at Aber Falls.
The verdict
Visiting Aber Falls was one of the best day trips I’d had in a long time.
I couldn’t believe the incredible views were just over an hour away from Liverpool, and felt like I was in a film.
It really does take your breath away when you see it for the first time, and I’d highly recommend a day trip for those who haven’t been yet.
Now I understand why this hidden gem gets rave reviews, because it’s absolutely magical.
