A car boot sale claims to be "the number one in Liverpool".
So I decided to visit Car Bootle to see what it had on offer. The car boot sale, on Trinity Road and Stanley Road in Bootle, is open every Sunday from 6am till 12pm and has the space to fit 120 stalls on its site.
I thought it would be a bit like the BBC's Car Booty, which followed people on their quest to profit from the random clutter stored away in their homes. But unlike the show, I found myself stumbling on a lot more than bric-a-brac.

The first thing that struck me was how busy Car Bootle was. While many enjoyed a lie-in on a Sunday morning, a long queue of cars was already waiting before 6am to get onto the site.
I arrived at 6am after parking up on a side road close to the site. Following a failed attempt at getting a coffee on the drive, I opted for one from the burger van on site, which was £3.50 with a bottled drink.
Now armed with a coffee and a £10 note, I made my way through the rows of foldaway tables. The first stall that caught my eye sold women's clothes - mostly with tags on - from major high street stores.

I flicked through the rails and came across items from Zara, Marks and Spencer and Rebellion. Some stalls also offered shoes, bags and accessories, meaning it was possible to find a full outfit from Car Bootle.
Although my £10 wouldn't stretch to a new wardrobe, there were plenty of fashionable bargains to be had. Other stalls sold menswear, children's clothes and football shirts.
There were several stalls selling multipacks of food and drink, with affordable deals for those looking to buy in bulk. Shoppers can also buy fresh food from the car boot's fruit and vegetable stall.

Some of the stalls sold furniture including drawers, glassware and even a television. I found a set of two large couches that would set someone back £150, with delivery.
My first purchase of the day came from a stall selling Spanish cleaning products. After being persuaded by the reasonable price, I bought two bottles for £5.

Another purchase came from a stall selling kitchenware. I did expect to have a go at haggling on my visit, however, the £2 price tag for two new mugs made it difficult to argue.
Despite not being a collector myself, there were plenty of interesting antiques and collectables on offer. There were vinyl records, old toys and other unique items, including Daleks and a Spitting Image doll of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
