I visited a new Nottingham city centre cafe and was made to feel right at home

There’s nearly always something for someone in a coffee shop. Tea, coffee, a soft drink, something to eat in or takeout.

We take our coffee shops for granted! We went to a brand new coffee shop where Community Reporter, Keimae Blake was made to feel right at home…

The Punch Cafe hasn’t been open for long, having welcomed its first customers to 215 Mansfield Road on September 11. Fitting perfectly amongst all the other shops on the road, I got a very warm welcome on arrival.

Inside, it looks like something out of an IKEA advert: modern, artful and aesthetically pleasing.

With the colours bright pink and dark blue spotted all over the shop, a colourful sign reading ‘We Think You Are Wonderful’ was hung up on the wall among many plants for decorations. I was greeted by two kind staff members interested to know how my day was going and if I had travelled far.

After speaking with staff, I was given a loyalty card where your 10th drink is on them. It is starting to get a little colder so to stay warm, I sat in and had a Mocha for £3.20.

I also had to order a chocolate and almond croissant for £2.85 as they were right in front of me, presented perfectly. The shop also had flapjacks and brownies on sale.

As I waited for my drink and croissant, the sweet smell of baking filled the room. Chatting away with staff, when my mocha arrived it was just the right temperature and my croissant filled with chocolate was double the crunch with the almonds added on top.

I noticed as other people came in, the staff were just as welcoming to them. Asking someone how they are really does go far - it’s the little things.

So, if you’re ever heading out of or into town, if you have a chance to stop and grab a coffee at the Punch Cafe you won’t just get what you buy - you’ll get a friendly chat and service with a smile. With the closure of many shops currently, if you can, even if it is just once, I would recommend this brand new cafe where staff are sociable, kind and make you feel like you’re at home.
