Twice a week we publish problems that will feature in a forthcoming Dear Jeremy advice column in the Saturday Guardian so that readers can offer their own advice and suggestions. We then print the best of your comments alongside Jeremy’s own insights. Here is the latest dilemma – what are your thoughts?
I worked for almost 11 years for a government body that was closed down last year. I was transferred to another organisation (non-government) that took over the same regulatory function.
I am utterly miserable. I’m 57 and don’t seem able to adapt to the change. It’s a highly competitive environment and we have impossible targets and deadlines to meet. There’s no expertise, so as an “old hand” I’m expected to advise colleagues while maintaining my own delivery.
I want to leave but not sure what the job market would be like for a 57-year-old female. I generally think I’m a good worker, I work hard and like to get the job done.
