'I’ve spoken with Jack' - Jamie Webster responds to Jack Grealish criticism after Liverpool accusations and Instagram post

Liverpool musician Jamie Webster has responded to criticism aimed at Jack Grealish following Manchester City's Champions League win.

On his Instagram story, pictured alongside Brandon Ashton - the Citizens kitman - 27-year-old Grealish posted the message: "Weekend in paradise my friend? Let's f****n avvvvv it."

Some media outlets picked up on the England attacker's post after they beat Inter Milan in the final at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul for the reference to Webster's song Weekend In Paradise.

The singer has been one of the figures at the forefront of the music and Liverpool fan culture movement since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp as he has taken his guitar across Europe which lead to the iconic fan scenes at Shevchenko Park in Kyiv for the 2018 final plus red-smoke filled fan parks in Madrid and Paris in the Reds' last two Champions League finals.

One national newspaper claimed that the use of lyrics in Grealish's Instagram post are a clear dig at Liverpool, who have been battling with Manchester City for a number of years.

Their article sparked some anger among Liverpool fans but Webster has spoken out in defence of the former Aston Villa captain.

One of his most famous songs is 'Weekend in Paradise', which the 29-year-old singer-songwriter released in 2020 as part of his 'We Get By' EP.

The title has been sung around the country with clips emerging from football clubs, including Carlisle United recently, celebrating with the song playing which features the lyrics: "Was it a pointless three day bender, or a weekend in Paradise, my friend?"

He tweeted: "Just because I’m a Liverpool fan, it doesn’t mean that players and fans from other clubs can’t enjoy my music.

"I’ve spoken with Jack about football and music a few times, he’s a top player and a top fella."
