I've seen this retro tile trend everywhere over this year, but Alexandra Daddario's green bathroom makes it feel cooler than ever before

Alexandra Daddario.

There's something about terrazzo tiles that feels effortlessly stylish, while being versatile, and, in many cases, sustainably made. It's unsurprising, then, that they've continued growing in popularity, particularly in the last year. However, of all the twists I've seen in the previous few months, Alexandra Daddario's space is the only space to stop me in my tracks.

The green bathroom, designed by Claire Thomas, brings terrazzo tiles to life in a way I've never seen before. The suppliers, Concrete Collaborative, used various terrazzo mixes around the deep green bathroom, creating a retro, spa-like space that complements the bathtub's brassy tones.

The best tile trends are fashionable now but have the power to endure, and Alexandra's green terrazzo is a fine example of this. It uses a look that was first popular in the Art Deco era, but its deep coloring and various finishes bring the look into the contemporary day. It may be trending now, but I would say this bathroom will be just as stunning 10 years from now.

With an unintentional endorsement from Alexandra, it's unsurprising that the power of the terrazzo tile is showing no signs of wavering. Hyperion Tiles' latest research finds that sales in this sector continue to rise, as its director, Richard Skeoch, explains.

Terrazzo tiles can add depth, character, and something a little different to traditionally plain bathroom styling. Whether you prefer real terrazzo or terrazzo effect tiles for your bathroom floors or walls, this striking design enables you to create a stylish space that's a pleasure to spend time in,' he says.

Alongside their appeal among celebrities (Alexandra included), Richard says that terrazzo's style variety is one of its many benefits.

'Terrazzo tiles are available in a range of styles and colours, which are suitable for a wide variety of classic and modern bathrooms,' he says. They're also highly water-resistant and consequently easy to clean.

'Non-porous real terrazzo and terrazzo effect (porcelain) tiles are highly water resistant, making them a great choice for a bathroom. Also, if you pick large format terrazzo tiles, you'll find cleaning is far easier with less grout lines to consider. Real terrazzo is unlikely to chip or crack, whether it's the backdrop for your shower or covers a bathroom floor.'
