'I’ve realised that I’ve been using my curtains wrong - the trick is a gamechanger'

What would you do if somebody told you that you've been using your curtains wrong and there's a proper way to hang them? You'd probably be shocked - just like this TikToker was when she realised the 'proper' way to hang curtains to ensure they don't move around on the rail.

TikTok user @Marilyn.2685 wrote: "I swear I've been living under a rock!" as the caption for her video which showed the proper way to hang curtains. The voiceover can be heard saying: "Show me a life hack that you randomly saw one day that is now an unconscious standard practice in your life." Over the top, it also reads: "Are you kidding me right now?" with a shocked emoji.

First, the curtains can be seen being put the right way on the railing - then the curtain is slid all the way to the end. Then in the hook, there is a gap in between so you place the bar behind it.

When put into place, this keeps the curtain at the end, so when the curtain is pulled open or shut, the curtain won't move out of place.

People were shocked at the hack, but others already knew it and were confused about how it wasn't common knowledge.

One wrote: "That’s not a 'life hack', that’s just the instructions for hanging curtains!", followed by a crying with laugher emoji.

Others commented saying they were confused and needed a step-by-step, so one TikToker took it upon herself to explain what was going on in the video.

They wrote: "First make sure your curtain is on the right way. okay you slide the curtain all the way to the end, and there’s a gap in between so you place the bar behind and basically what this does is keeps the curtain at the end, so when you pull it, it won’t move. If that makes sense."

Another user added: "The rod gets hidden behind the curtain. You’re supposed to stretch out the curtain at the ends."

"Do people not do this?", one TikToker asked.

Another wrote: "I thought everyone did that - otherwise they slide all over the place when you move them…"

Someone else said: "It's literally in Ikea’s guides."
