I've learned that blue and white stripes are the secret to an 'old money' aesthetic – this Kelly Clarkson-curated ottoman is my favorite piece to date (for under $85)

Kelly clarkson in her living room for her NYC wayfair collection.

This spring, almost every reel I have seen has celebrated the 'old money' aesthetic, which embodies everything you might expect: Classic Hampton's style, quiet luxury, and subtle yet expensive style that symbolizes high society. Few patterns capture the look quite like stripes, or navy and white stripes, to be more specific.

The chicest people I know all have a navy and white striped shirt in their closet, but how does this translate to interior design? Unexpectedly, I just found the perfect piece deep on Wayfair, curated by Kelly Clarkson, and for a limited time, it's selling for as little as $85.

The Annalise Upholstered Ottoman, from the Kelly Clarkson Home collection at Wayfair, is equal parts stunning and sophisticated, the perfect quiet luxury addition to my living room. Its navy and white colorway is utterly timeless and versatile enough to complement any home, whether you're working with a small, minimal space like my own or a New England coastal style room, for which this piece is perfect.

While I certainly find stripes are at the height of fashion now, design experts explain that, usurpingly, their allure is no new phenomenon.

'You can’t go wrong by adding a bold stripe. From Louis XV to Ralph Lauren, they’re the stalwarts of accomplished interior design. To keep it feeling fresh, lean into a maximalist look by layering contrasting patterns and colours to bring a more modern feel,' comments Georgia Metcalfe, the founder and creative director at French Bedroom.

Alongside complementing contemporary style, Georgia explains that striped pieces, like this ottoman, nod to quintessential style. The living room is the obvious starting point, but it also lends itself to the bedroom, where this ottoman would be similarly perfect.

'French style favours print and pattern, particularly the Breton stripe, a timeless and perennial favourite. A touch of pattern can truly enliven a space. Stripes work perfectly on larger pieces of furniture like headboards to create a focal point in the room or equally well on soft furnishings like cushions or curtains to add personality and interest,' Georgia says.
